Based on this philosophy, in regards to the challenges toward carbon neutrality, one of the most-important global environmental issues, the company adopted “Nippon Steel Carbon Neutral Vision 2050 – A Challenge of Zero-Carbon Steel” as their new initiative in March 2021, aiming to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and reduce CO2 emissions by 30% in 2030 compared to 2013. They regard this as the most-important business task, and the company will make a concerted effort toward achieving zero-carbon steel, such as research and development of unprecedented technologies like hydrogen reduction steelmaking process, and will continue to lead the world’s steel industry.

Nippon Steel is dedicated to improving their ESG efforts, and they are committed to creating the value of steel and realizing its potential as an indispensable basic material for all industries and for building social infrastructure. Nippon Steel will return the value of steel to society and thereby contribute to society, facilitating everyone's enjoyment of the wealth of benefits gained from this.
